ACC Democrats’ Campaign to Forgive Medical Debt

Forgive medical debt

For every $1 donated, $100 of local people’s medical debt will be forgiven through our campaign with ‘RIP Medical Debt.’ From February to November, the $5,700 the ACCDC has raised will forgive $570,000 of medical debt from our neighbors. Letters to people whose debt is forgiven will be sent before Christmas and we will receive a report of the impact we had in our community. Expect a press release sometime in the next month.

Seven ways to get involved:

The ACC Democratic Committee is made up of Athens residents just like you who share our progressive values. Here are some ways you can get involved:

Attend the Monthly ACCDC Meetings

We welcome prospective members at our meetings — please join us sometime! Our regular meetings are on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 pm, and we make Facebook events for each one.

Attend Mayor and Commission Meetings

Republicans are showing up heavily at these meetings and we need you to make a public comment supporting positive local policies at the Voting Meeting and Agenda Setting Meeting https://www.accgov.com/176/Mayor-Commission-Meetings

  • Regular Session voting meetings normally take place on the 1st Tuesday of every month
  • Agenda Setting Session meetings normally take place on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (comments only on agenda items)
